EARLY YEARS
Kenton College Early Years is a unique, purpose built, exciting environment aiming to nurture our youngest learners curiosity, sense of confidence and encourage a love of learning all in a safe space. Community is key, bringing parents and staff together to ensure the focus is on the children. With moments such as Stay and Play, whereby monthly, parents are welcome to enjoy a morning in the classroom with their children, actively engaging in activities together. Termly ‘Look at our Learning’ takes place which fosters a sense of pride and boosts the child’s self esteem by showcasing their favourite work to their loved ones as well as an annual Christmas Concerts and Sports Day for the whole family to enjoy.
Kenton Early Years recognises the importance of academic learning. In EY1, the children are encouraged daily to ‘learn through play.’ A concept that allows children to explore, ask questions and share their adventures with each other as well as their teaching staff. In EY2, a combination of learning through play and more concrete sessions such as Phonics and Maths take place. As the children move to Year 1 and therefore KS1, lessons take shape in a variety of ways, inside and outside of the classroom. Here, the children are given the opportunity daily to showcase their learning, share in new experiences and develop many important skills, ready for the move to the Main School for Year 2.
As well as importance on academics being recognised, emotional, social and behavioural growth is held with equally high regard at Kenton. Children take part in Wellbeing/circle time sessions weekly in order to discuss feelings as well as the wider world around them. Equally, Kenton has ‘values’ that the children are reminded to uphold on a day to day basis, such as kindness, respect and teamwork. Each week, an assembly takes place where we celebrate a child from each class for an achievement. Older Kenton children come to Early Years for play times and on Friday afternoons in order to build a relationship with them as well as show positive play and to quite simply have fun together.
At Kenton Early Years, from the youngest to the oldest, the children have the opportunity to engage in specialist lessons, with specialist teachers. From Music to PE and Swimming lessons, every child is given the chance to learn new skills. Equally, from Year 1 the children are welcomed to join an array of optional after school clubs including Tennis, Lego building, LAMDA (drama) and many more.
With an enthusiastic and engaging teaching team, Kenton Early Years is a flourishing, inviting place for our learners to grow and develop through fun, laughter and exploration.
